The “Hüh Tu” collection is a set of woven geometric bamboo wall art which is reminiscent of the free-hand facial and leg tattoos once commonly practiced by tribal women in North East India and a few Southeast Asian countries.
Various patterns women bore on their bodies signified coming of age, social standing, marital status and her maturity.
These patterns are not only ornamental but carry remnants of the past, historical experiences and cultural identities.
The collection seeks continuity of these old art forms through bamboo, the most common medium amongst all the tribal communities.
It is our way of preserving traditional art forms by bringing in relevance, paying homage to the people, places and perhaps allow nostalgic conversations.
